Global Messenger

I am a Global Messenger for Special Olympics Virginia and a Global Messenger Special Olympics for New York!  I enjoy spreading the word about Special Olympics and I am working to get more coaches, athletes and volunteers participating. 

I like to talk about Special Olympics  because it's an awesome cause to be in!  I also get to talk about my experiences. I have done many things with Special Olympics. I also like to get people to change their hearts and minds about seeing us with disabilities and to see the challenges we face everyday. My goals are to compete in the Special Olympics World Games and to be an International Global Messenger one day!

Thank you taking the time to read my blog for Special Olympics. Once soccer starts up, I will write about it!!  OOPPSS, I forgot, I will be doing golf too!!

 Now it time for to get ready for offseason now and I am going to train real hard to get ready for soccer.

Summer games

 I got back from Rhode Island with my Team Virginia on June 2nd!!  I got 1st place in the Pentathlon, I got 2nd place in 1k Bike race , also I got 3rd Place in the 5k bike race.

On June 7 to 9, The Hudson valley Pentathlon team went Massachusetts summer games to compete. I got 1st place in the Pentathlon!

On June 14-16, I went to Summer games in Buffalo with the Hudson Valley Region team, I did the Pentathlon and the Turbo Jav. I broke some records too. I got 3rd Place in the Pentathlon and 2nd place in the Turbo jav.

Basketball/Rhode Island!

Last night we won our Basketball Championship Game, the score was 36 to 26!!! We are 1st place in Division one!!!  Today I am going to Rhode Island with my TEAM VA!! I will be competing in track and field and cycling!! I am going my BEST,  Let me win, if I cannot win. Let me be Brave the Attempt!!

Basketball

We just had our last basketball game for the season!! Our record is 8-1!! We play the Championship game  next Wednesday at 6pm.  We are playing in Division 1!! Our team is Clarkstown!! If you live in Rockland County come out support a AWESOME cause!!! Its at West Haverstraw Community Center!! Please come and support us athletes!! I will posting pics once the basketball is over!!!

Track and Field Event

Today we had a track event at Sleepy Hollow High School in Sleepy Hollow, NY. It was a great Track event!!

The result are: I got 1st place in the Turbo Jav, 3rd place in the relay and the Pentathlon!!

400 meters run: 2mins 12 secs

100 meters run: 21 secs

Running Long Jump:  1.80 meters

Shout Put: 6.80 meters

Turbo Jav: 13.60

Special Olympics

Hi, my name is Katy Sanchez, I am a Special Olympic Athlete, The sports I participate in are soccer, basketball, cross-country skiing, sailing, golf, floor hockey, track and field, cycling and triathlons.  This my 6th year doing Special Olympics. I am a Global Messenger for Special Olympics VA and Global Messenger for Special Olympics New York! I am spreading the news about Special Olympic. There are 3.7 Million athletes worldwide!!! That's 170 countries!! Its is  an AWESOME cause!!!  The Special Olympic Oath is "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me brave in the attempt." There are many things you can do with Special Olympics!! You can be coach, volunteer, or be FAN!!  So get out go see an Special Olympic game!! Please find your local region on www.specialolympics.org.

In 2010 I was selected and honored to be part of a team of athletes from Virginia that represented the USA at the Latin American Games in Puerto Rico. I competed in the triathlon there and took the bronze medal in my division!! It was one of the best times of my life.  I will never forget our experiences there.  While there, my teammates and I heard the most exciting news that I was selected to go to the Special Olympics National Games in Lincoln, Nebraska with Team Virginia!!  In Nebraska I competed in Track and field and won gold medals in the 100m race and running long jump.  I won a silver medal in the shot put and a bronze medal in the 400 meters race.  In the near future, my goal is to be selected to compete in the World Games! Also I am going to Rhode Island with my VA TEAM!!!! I am going Massachusetts Summer Games with pentathlon group from NY, also I am going to Summer Games in Buffalo NY for track and field!!! Being a multi-state is pretty awesome!! I will let you all know how I do in these events!!
